Early Spring 10 x 8 Landscape Oil Painting

Early Spring 10 x 8" landscape oil painting on panel
March can be a dreary month but fortunately I find that subtlety of colour in landscapes really appeals to me. The red barn adds a lot of vibrancy and interest to this painting. It's sitting next to a fairly neutral field that is waiting to come to life when warm weather arrives.

The dormant grass has a faint cast of green and is ready to burst forth with life when warm sunny spring days come.

I posted this on instagram but something was nagging at me until I added more colour and thicker paint to the field in the foreground. Now I'm happy. The thick paint and variances in the colour of the paint creates another layer of depth. At the same time the difference in colour is subtle.

Early Spring in the Valley - Acrylic Landscape Painting

Early Spring in the Valley 6 x 6" Acrylic on cradled panel.

SOLD
This is a barn close to where I live. I drive past on a regular basis and have seen it in all seasons. I find it to be a compelling subject. The willow trees growing near the barn hide part of it and other out buildings. The red colour, stands out against the bare purple trees growing on the hill behind the barn, creating a wonderful backdrop. The clouds in the sky create a highlight in the right place which gives it further appeal.

This is an acrylic which I don't normally use to paint with. When I'm in a hurry and need a painting to dry quickly, I'll use acrylics. I much prefer oils.

I find that my camera's photos tend to make the blues look more exaggerated. I've tried to tone it down a bit in the photo but it's still looking very blue.

November Country Day - Fall Landscape Acrylic Painting

November Country Day - 6 x 6" Acrylic on panel
SOLD

A scene in Grey County near Priceville. This painting was created using a photograph that I took last November as a reference. There was no snow on the ground, the grass was a light ochre colour and the trees were a purple hue in the distance. No leaves were left on the trees. I saw beauty in that. I did 4 small paintings similar to this from that day's photography. This was my favourite of the four. I'm not surprised that it sold.

I need to work on my titles a bit more, I'm not loving it.
